How Goblins are Made
There once were two Goblins, though they didn't yet know they were Goblins or they weren't quite Goblins yet -- no one can say for sure. They both attended the same Goblin school, though one was older than the other and she never let the younger Goblin forget it. She teased him good-naturedly but mercilessly about his crushes on other creatures and his floppy hair. The younger Goblin laughed and rolled his eyes for he knew she cared for him very much and that he was hers, alone, to tease.
After school the older Goblin left their town to see the world, though she didn't get very far. They stayed in touch for a while, and always saw each other when she was back in their Goblin town. They loved being together and laughed and laughed as Goblins do in each other's company. Perhaps this is how they became Goblins, through a series of escalating chuckles. But we may never know for certain.
After school the younger Goblin left to see the world and he did make it far. He traveled all around the world having adventures and falling in love. He met lots of other magical creatures on they way and when he came home he told his Goblin friend about his travels and adventures and she listened, rapt and proud of the Goblin he was becoming.
As time passed they saw less and less of each other, as can happen when you get older. Then, one day, she spied him at the best store in town. This particular store sells passages to other worlds and times and it was just the kind of place Goblins like to frequent. She was so happy to see the other Goblin as even on all of her adventures she hadn't met another. She had met mermaids, tree nymphs, trolls, sirens, and a number of many other magical creatures but Goblins were a rare breed.
The Goblins fell back into being fast friends and spending time laughing together as only Goblins can. They talked of their travels and adventures, their loves and their heartbreaks. Very slowly, then all at once the two Goblins fell in love.
Spinning laughter into love. That, sweet Goblin, is how Goblins are made.
